Organisations Fund 2014-2016 – Outcomes for 2014

The small to medium arts sector is a core part of our cultural landscape. This sector drives innovation, develops programming content for venues, festivals and events and is a significant employer of artists and arts workers, including emerging artists.

Arts Queensland's (AQ) Organisations Fund was established to support Queensland's small to medium arts organisations by providing triennial funding to contribute to their core operations.

Thirty-five organisations received funding of $21.2 million for the 2014-2016 triennium.

Today we are highlighting how these Organisations Fund recipients performed against the Fund's priorities in the first year (2014) of this three-year fund.

A vibrant network of organisations recognised as leaders in their field

  • Nine out of 10 attendees or participants surveyed rated the work of organisations as good or excellent.
  • All organisations demonstrated innovative practice with the most common being the development of new product or work (80% of organisations), new business models or ways of delivering (63% of organisations) and artistic/cultural experimentation or risk-taking (60% of organisations).
  • 69% of organisations developed their own or others skills and knowledge, established new networks and collaborations or provided career development support for artists.

Increased audiences and engagement within Queensland and nationally and/or internationally

  • 2,065,751 attendees and/or participants in 2014, a 16% increase since 2012.
  • 4,660 activities delivered to over 870,000 people in regional Queensland
  • 897 activities delivered to almost 890,000 people interstate and overseas.

Leadership and development of art form area/s, independent artists, cultural workers and companies

  • 399.2 other workers.

Models of strong management and governance, successful and innovative business strategies.

  • Total turnover for all organisations in 2014 was $35.7 million, up $4.7 million from 2012.
  • Additional funding of $27 million was leveraged with a return on investment of $1.50 for every dollar of AQ funding invested.
  • Income of $7.1 million through financial partnerships (other than AQ) was achieved and $4.1 million through in-kind partnerships.
