Is there power and water?

Some sites have access to power and water. It is best to look at the spaces at a glance page for details.

Power and water can be made available for a small fee and needs to be organised well in advance of the event. The fee covers costs associated with activation and management and additional charges for excessive use may apply.

Is there security?

The area is under surveillance at all times. However you are responsible for keeping good order in the hired area for the duration of your event. You are also responsible for the safety of any equipment left on site overnight.

You may be required to employ security personnel during the event, depending on attendance figures and style of event. This will be discussed with you as a condition of hire if required.

Is there a wet weather contingency?

It is important to consider a wet weather contingency plan for your event. Unfortunately we do not have temporary all weather structures available; however you can hire these from suppliers. Alternatively, we have one under cover space available, Whale Mall. Details can be found on the website. If the Whale Mall is available on the day of your event, we can transfer you over for no additional fee up to 72 hours prior to your event.

Can we access toilets?

There are some toilet facilities available at the Cultural Centre. These are limited in terms of opening hours and the number of toilets and are not in close proximity to all of the spaces available for hire. You will be advised if additional toilets are required and this would then become an item on your list of things to organise.

We are often asked how many toilets a person should rent for an event or party. We normally recommend 1 toilet unit per 100 people for smaller gatherings. For larger events, use this table as a guide only.

Can we bring caterers onsite?

Catering is permitted onsite and up to the site hirer to organise. Please note no open fires are permitted. Gas fired barbeques are permitted provided they are operated within three metres of any foliage. Protective matting must be placed on the ground under all food service areas to protect the grass or concrete from any residue such as fat or oil.

If you are selling food, you must obtain a Council Temporary Food Stall Permit from Brisbane City Council in accordance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1989.

Can we have alcohol on site?

A permit is required should you be either selling or consuming alcohol. This needs to be applied for through State Government Liquor Licence division and Brisbane City Council. Visit Brisbane City Council for details.

Do I need insurance for the event?

You are required by law to obtain public liability insurance and any other insurance deemed necessary to cover liability of the hirer for an amount of not less than $10 million. Evidence of insurance is required before booking can be finalised and guaranteed.
