Dance and Music Sector Development Plan (PDF 1413KB)

The subsidised dance sector in Queensland is small, but vibrant and accomplished. It has a few medium and large organisations and a number of small organisations, networks, part-time ensembles and individual artists. The broader dance community comprises community, commercial, multicultural and Indigenous dance, encompassing teaching, education, training, participation, therapy, traditional culture and performance. The two main sector groups, located in major centres, are subsidised professional companies, and small independent collectives and individual dance artists.

Initiatives

  • APAM – Arts Queensland is committed to showcasing Queensland artists and arts organisations at the biennial Australian Performing Arts Market.
  • Arts Queensland and the Australia Council are joining forces to create a supportive structure that will produce and manage selected Queensland theatre and dance groups, enabling them to create, present and tour their work more effectively within Queensland, nationally and internationally. Proposals are now invited to deliver managing and producing services to Queensland theatre and dance groups.
