Designing Queensland

Good, smart design is increasingly playing a major role in our everyday lives as well as becoming a key driver for our economy. The Queensland government is committed to fostering ideas, imagination, creativity and innovation in everything we do - these are the building blocks for a sustainable community.

The Queensland Government's $3 million initiative Designing Queensland aims to make the state a dynamic centre for Asia-Pacific design, recognising that good, smart design is increasingly playing a major role in everyday lives.

Designing Queensland comprises:

  • $1.1M to provide businesses with access to design expertise to improve their economic competitiveness.

  • $1.5M to present the inaugural Asia-Pacific design triennial in 2009 to highlight the economic, environmental and social value of design.

  • $120,000 for a Queensland P-12 teacher to work with the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum External Link in New York, and to develop online learning resources for Queensland design educators in partnership with the State Library of Queensland External Link

  • $280,000 for the Smart State Designer of the Year Award and Brisbane Indesign External Link to promote Queensland designers. Brisbane Indesign is a unique opportunity for local designers to showcase their work.
