The State Library offers an insight to social exclusion

For decades Western society has grown more affluent and well-educated but we still face issues of drug dependency, mental illness, violence and civil disorder.

David Burchell, Senior Lecturer in Humanities at the University of Western Sydney, will discuss the issue of social exclusion in a free talk on Wednesday 18 April at the State Library of Queensland as part of the State Library’s regular Introducing…series.

David will examine patterns of marginalisation and discuss the idea of ‘the other’ as shaped by history, policy and personal incapacity.

The Introducing… series offers straightforward and enlightening introductions to complex or timely issues and Introducing…social exclusion is the first of two talks presented in association with Griffith REVIEW.

The latest edition of Griffith REVIEW, Divided Nation, looks at some of these inequalities in action.
