Calling all Queensland designers! Entry to the 2008 Smart State Designer of the Year is now open.

Recognising designer's work, their leadership and commitment to design excellence, the award is presented by Arts Queensland and the Queensland branch of the Design Institute of Australia since 2006.

The Smart State Designer of the Year is part of the larger awards program, Queensland Designers on Show (qdos), run by the Design Institute of Australia. The awards were formerly called the Queensland Design Awards.

The awards cover all facets of the design industry across three major categories of interior design, three dimensional-design and visual communication.

The winner of the 2008 Smart State Designer of the Year award will receive a $5000 travel bursary.

Past winners include furniture designer Lasse Kinnunen, of Deka Furniture (2006), and Kirsti Simpson, Managing Principal of HASSALL (2007).
