Paradise comes to the State Library of Queensland

Paradise and the world famous come to Brisbane with the State Library of Queensland's Paradise and Ex Libris: bookplates from our collections exhibitions.

From 22 December 2007 – 24 March 2008, Paradise is an exciting program that explores what paradise is and how you can create it.

It includes performances and films to special Summer Paradise Sessions where you can chill-out to the exotic sounds of the Pacific, this exhibition looks at the concepts of paradise as represented through art, historical objects, kitsch and memorabilia and how it has been represented in the history of Queensland.

Once you've explored Paradise, peek into the personal lives and interests of some prominent Australian and international identities with Ex Libris: bookplates from our collections.

Ex Libris, until 28 January, features the bookplates of celebrated artists, writers, celebrities and even royalty.

Prominent identities featured include, Benito Mussolini, Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Joh and Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen, Ethel Turner, Dorothea Mackellar, Brett Whiteley, Lloyd Rees and Norman and Lionel Lindsay.

From 17 – 19 December as part of Ex Libris, budding artists aged 8 – 12 years, can join award-winning children's author and illustrator Narelle Oliver to design and print their own bookplate.
