Public servants who bark, neigh, sniff, meow and wriggle? They're not on the payroll but thousands of dogs, horses, cats, donkeys, pigeons, beetles and tiny worms have been employed by the Federal Government.

From 15 December 2007 – 18 March 2008 at the Queensland Museum South Bank, It's a Dog's Life salutes the daily duties and admirable deeds of animals in the public service.

Photos, models, film footage, documents, real objects and activities convey stories of what is 'all in a day's work' for these remarkable animals and their human co-workers, describing their efforts and challenges they have met.

Interactive exhibits invite visitors to investigate why animals have been selected for these jobs and their intimate relationships with humans.
