Queensland to host Spielberg’s latest production |
|
The Pacific, tipped to be the most expensive television series made globally in 2007-08, is about America’s battle with the Japanese in the Pacific in World War II. Filming will begin on the 10-episode series at Rocky Point, north of Port Douglas later this year. The accessibility and quality of Queensland locations combined with the assistance of Government agencies were major factors in securing the series, which is expected to be as highly regarded as its predecessor, Band of Brothers. Melbourne will also feature as a principal location for the series. The Pacific will bring significant business opportunities and local employment prospects. Production expenditure in Queensland is estimated to be equivalent to a major feature film and the state's locations will feature in many of the episodes. The Pacific Film and Television Commission were instrumental in attracting The Pacific to Queensland and played a strong role in facilitating stakeholder meetings with key State Government agencies and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. |
