Exhibition puts the spotlight on Queensland’s Stolen Generations |
|
This year marks a decade since the Bringing Them Home report, which responded to the national inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. These children became known as the Stolen Generation. A free exhibition at the State Library of Queensland, Broken Links: the Stolen Generations in Queensland, portrays the history of Indigenous child removal through documents and items, and the personal stories of five Aboriginal Queenslanders who were removed from their families from the 1930s until as recently as the 1970s. Touch the rough material the children wore as clothing, hear the personal accounts of children who were removed and read the documents that allowed this to happen. Broken Links is on display at the State Library until August 26 2007. Visit State Library Queensland - What's on for more information.
