A new cross-portfolio Indigenous Division has been established within the Department of Education, Training and the Arts.

Its creation reflects the high priority the Department places on Indigenous arts and learning. The new division’s primary goal is to generate greater synergies between Indigenous arts, training and education.

It will also be a single point of accountability for Indigenous policy.

As part of this, the Department has developed its first whole-of-department Indigenous learning and arts strategic plan. The Indigenous Learning and Arts Strategic Plan for 2008 – 2011 builds on past successes and looks for new ways of working together with Indigenous stakeholders.
