Gold Coast region museums sign up for 'health check' |

A record number of museums and heritage centres in the Gold Coast region have signed up to take part in Museum and Gallery Services Queensland's 2008 standards program or 'health check'. The 12-month program allows museums to assess their practices and policies against national standards and develop their own future planning to ensure they remain valuable and sustainable community assets. The 2008 program follows a successful three-year pilot run across the state from 2005-2007. Rebekah Butler, executive director of Museum and Gallery Services Queensland, said the standards program was an invaluable opportunity for participants to review their operations and learn from experienced museum practitioners. The museums taking part are: Beaudesert Historical Museum; Beenleigh and District Historical Village; Garden Hill at Lost World Museum; Gold Coast Historical Museum; Museum of Australian Military Intelligence, Canungra; Rathdowney Area Development and Historical Association; Tamborine Mountain Heritage Centre; Upper Clarence Historical Society Pioneer Cottage and Bicentennial Museum; and Yugambeh Museum, Language and Heritage Centre.
