School of Creative Arts celebrates 40th anniversary in Longreach

The School of Creative Arts in Longreach celebrated its 40th anniversary over four days in July with artist talks, design workshops, arts business planning and workshops to promote local Indigenous culture.

Blackall-based Arts West received $30,160 through an Arts Queensland industry development initiative to increase the content of the annual Longreach event so that Central West Queensland artists attending the event could have every opportunity to come together to hone their craft and expand their professional horizons.

The funding for this year's event gave Arts West a chance to increase the number and range of activities on offer and also to scope the project as a potential model for other regional areas in Queensland.

Arts West presented workshops in textiles, pastels, photography and sculpture from 25-28 July and will develop a community art project to engage the broader community.

Arts West has been instrumental in presenting the School of Creative Arts as one of its signature events and the 40th anniversary of the School of Creative Arts represents a real milestone.

Arts West aims to promote the arts as an integral part of Western Queensland communities and industry, leading to educational opportunities, cultural enrichment and economic benefits. Arts Queensland's industry development initiatives focus on creative, market and business development and aim to open up new opportunities in the arts sector.
