JWCOCA offers eclectic music choice for August
Tell Heaven
The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts (JWCOCA) is delivering two very different performances to the stage later this month.

Ninehoursnorth and Tujiko Noriko, the undisputed queen of Japanese avant-pop, team up during her first visit to Australia in many years. Her uniquely spliced version of divergent pop cuts a fine path through delicate melodies and devolving rhythms.

Her visit comes on the back of a swag of critically-acclaimed new recordings that situate her at the top of contemporary avant-electropop from Japan.

Tell Heaven is the imagined meeting, outside of time and reality, where the legends sit down to play. Where High Lonesome brothers Ira and Charlie Louvin keep company with Boogie Woogie sister Rosetta Tharpe and where Reverend Gary Davis shouts the names of the seven gates while Johnny Cash reads to us from Revelations.

Every year seven esteemed and eclectic musicians join in that musical conversation in a celebration of the spirits of absent friends; big voiced harmony sound, all outside the compromise, pretense and confusion of contemporary life Featuring the vocals of Leah Cotterell and Pearly Black; Coojee Timms, John Rodgers, Helen Russell and Kym Ambrose, Tell Heaven is a feast for the senses.
