BoardConnect celebrates its achievements

It's time to celebrate for BoardConnect, after a successful 12-month pilot period saw it 'connect' with more than 85 percent of Queensland's arts organisations.

On June 4, BoardConnect marked its achievements with a function at QPAC where it presented governance commendations and announced future directions for the program.

BoardConnect is an initiative of consulting firm Positive Solutions, co-funded by Arts Queensland. It is the first service in Australia offering continuous governance support specifically for arts organisations.

During its one-year pilot BoardConnect connected with large, medium and small arts groups in metropolitan and regional areas, offering round tables, seminars, workshops, and a board health check survey.

The end-of-pilot report and presentations at QPAC will feature keynote speaker Dr Peter Shergold, who will discuss some of the challenges facing not-for-profit organisations, and the implications this has for their boards.

Dr Shergold is CEO of the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) at the University of New South Wales. The CSI works to build the capacity of Australia's non-for-profit (NFP) sector, philanthropic endeavour and the development of social responsibility in the corporate sector.

From 2003 to 2007, Dr Shergold served as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He has been head of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Chief Executive of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission, Public Service Commissioner, Secretary of the Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business and Secretary of the Department of Education, Science and Training.
