QAG Breaking Boundaries and exhibiting Queensland in a different light
Alick Tipoti's work is on display in Breaking Boundaries

A new exhibition, fascinating installation and activities at the Cultural Centre's Gallery of Modern Art are entertaining young and old.
An exhibition illustrating the expansion of artistic practices is breaking the traditional boundaries of Indigenous Australian art in place since the 1970s.
Breaking Boundaries expresses the dynamic innovation and spirit of Indigenous Australian art and culture through diverse contemporary movements.
The exhibition includes work by Brook Andrew, Alick Tipoti, Butcher Cherel Janangoo, Doreen Reid Nakamarra, Fiona Foley, Vernon Ah Kee, Gunybi Ganambarr and Sally Gabori among others. The considerable Queensland presence includes works by Murri, Bama and Torres Strait Islander artists.
To celebrate 150 years of Queensland, leading contemporary artist, Anne Wallace, has transformed GoMA's Children's Art Centre into a night-time wonderland.

Anne Wallace's interactive project, Release the bats, is now on show at the Park Level of GoMA's Children's Art Centre.

Release the bats is an engaging installation with a range of free, hands-on activities for children of all ages.

For more than 20 years Anne Wallace has created art works that draw from her interests in film and photography. Release the bats, Wallace's first major installation for children, considers the gothic, yet familiar elements of growing up as a child in Queensland.

The project also represents the artist's first foray into filmmaking with three films, The Dark, Open Windows and Glasshouse, premiering as part of the installation.

Release the bats is one of several Q150 projects the Queensland Art Gallery is presenting in 2009.
