The coming weeks hold something for everyone at the Queensland Museum South Bank with free activities, talks and half-price entry to the Sciencentre. Take part in a weaving workshop with Aunty Sarah (Epatu the Basket Lady), and share with her Torres Strait Islander culture through stories and weaving demonstrations. Both decorative and practical, basketry and weaving is an integral part of Torres Strait Islander lifestyle. For generations, the social activity of weaving has provided important time to sit together and share stories, talk about family history and learn from each other. In the latest of the Queensland Connections free talks, Professor Peter Spearritt, Professor of History and Dr Marion Stell, Project Coordinator, University of Queensland present Selling Queensland: Triumph in the Tropics. This free talk explores the popular and promotional images of Queensland from the late 19th century to the early 21st century. While many of the images were produced by government bodies, companies and political movements also attempted to market products and ideologies in the name of Queensland. Until 26 June 2009 everyone can enjoy half-price entry to the fascinating exhibits and engaging activities on display at the Sciencentre. The offer is available after 2.30pm Monday to Friday during term time and excludes public holidays. Admission after 2.30pm is:
