In an exclusive exhibition never to be seen outside New York, the Queensland Art Gallery will host a stunning exhibition of American paintings and sculpture from the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art. American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from the Met features 71 impressionist and realist paintings by 34 artists from the Metropolitan's collection. The exhibition features light-filled landscapes and seascapes, intimate portraits and images that reflect aspects of modern life. Works from leading Impressionist figures such as John Singer Sargent, Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt and William Merritt Chase and Realists John Sloan and William Glackens will hang alongside a selection of paintings by James McNeill Whistler, Winslow Homer and Thomas Eakins, who flourished around 1900 and influenced both Impressionists and the Realists. More than 30 iconic Australian paintings from artists including Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Frederick McCubbin and Rupert Bunny will also be included in the exhibition.
