Application can be made for up to $50 000 over two years from Arts Queensland.

Initially, arts organisations should contact their local council to identify an appropriate disused/unutilised building that the council is prepared to supply for this program. Local councils will also need to demonstrate their financial commitment to the project which must be at least equal to the funding sought from Arts Queensland.

It is possible for councils to enter into the partnership with Arts Queensland without a local arts organisation to manage the facility. However, the council will need to demonstrate ability to manage the facility.

The capital contribution from Arts Queensland will provide for the professional fees and costs associated with detailed planning, design and documentation, project management and supervision and building contractor fees.

Arts Queensland will support two facets of the program:

  • Development of the facility
  • Coordination of activities

The local council will need to provide:

  • Project planning and coordination for the capital adaptation and fit-out works;
  • On-going asset management; and
  • On-going maintenance.

Applications will need to demonstrate that operating costs are provided for by an existing arts organisation or through financial assistance.

Letters of support from local arts organisations, artists and artsworkers should be provided to demonstrate demand for such a facility within your region.
