Arts Queensland Creative Fellowships 2007

Andrea Moor of Kenmore to further her extensive career in theatre by developing her directing skills with several leading theatre companies. Following an acting career of more than 25 years with Australia's top theatre companies, Ms Moor's focus on directing is a natural progression. The Fellowship will support her transition to directing with Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite Theatre Company, Belvoir Street's Company B and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

Esteemed visual artist Jill Chism of Oak Beach near Port Douglas, will lead fellow artists in creating an artwork focusing on the preciousness of water in Queensland communities. The collaborative work, Water's Edge, will draw attention to water as a vital life resource and will include environmental art created at specific sites with photographic and video-based images to be exhibited in galleries across the state. Ms Chism's career as an artist and sculptor spans 35 years with public art commissions in Port Douglas, Innisfail, Cairns and Mackay. The Fellowship will enable her to research environmental, sociological, cultural and historical interaction with water in communities including Cairns, Chillagoe, Mackay, Noosa, Townsville and Winton.

Playwright and director Michael Futcher of Everton Hills will work in collaboration with industry professionals to develop a major new theatre production based on Alexandre Dumas' epic novel Memoirs of a Physician. With the support of QUT and Griffith University, Mr Futcher will work with an ensemble of students, along with writers, singers, a director, a choreographer and a composer to develop a work that explores a profound union of physical and text-based theatre and incorporates diverse performance techniques and styles.
