Banding together in Yarrabah

Witness the power of music to bring people together in this short film from the Queensland Music Festival (QMF) showcasing the third Yarrabah Band Festival in November 2015.

In 2012 QMF was invited to help revive the Yarrabah Brass Band, founded in 1910 but dormant since the mid-70s. Since the band was re-established, the community has embraced an annual free music festival from 2013, produced by QMF, showcasing the talent of locals, including the Yarrabah Brass Band, alongside high-profile artists such as Blue King Brown, Shellie Morris, Busby Marou and Thelma Plum.

The festival draws people from across the region and also supports the discovery and development of talented musicians in Yarrabah, both at the school and in the wider community. QMF artists conduct intensive skills development workshops in the months leading into each Yarrabah Band Festival.

The fourth Yarrabah Band Festival is Saturday 5 November 2016.

QMF is a state-wide celebration of music that brings together local, national and international talent to deliver every conceivable style of music. Since 1999 the Festival has engaged audiences of more than a million people through projects in 82 regions across the state. In collaboration with councils and communities, QMF inspires participation in music-making and performances that reflect local culture and tell local stories.
