An insider's guide to the World Science Festival

For the first time in the history of the event, the World Science Festival leaves its birthplace of New York to bring science out of the laboratory and into the streets, museums, galleries and performing arts venues of Brisbane from 9 to 13 March 2016.

Over five days, the inaugural World Science Festival Brisbane, presented by Queensland Museum, will bring some of the world’s greatest thought leaders to Queensland, showcase local scientists and performers from around the Asia Pacific region, and host the brightest and the best from previous events in New York.

Family fun

The 'Family science fun' playlist features World Science Festival activities for you and the kids, from watching turtles emerge from their eggs to science-adventure storytelling, making slime or running across magic mud as part of the Street Science program.

Festival freebies

The ‘World Science Festival freebies’ playlist is your gateway to all the no-cost science fun you can handle. From outdoor films to the FameLab Semi-Finals, World War I forensic and ballistic science of Mephisto, and glowing bacteria in giant petri dishes.

Talking science

The ‘Talking science’ playlist is the place to go for access to in-depth discussions with some of the biggest and brightest of the science world, with topics covering robots, genes, science writing, and performance enhancing technologies and the Dear Albert post-show talk with Alan Alda and Brian Greene.

On stage

The ‘On stage with the World Science Festival’ playlists brings science to life through a series of performances including the life of Albert Einstein, and the electrifying journey to the General Theory of Relativity.

Film series

Grab your popcorn and turn your phone to silent for the ‘Lights, camera, science!’ playlist, featuring a series of films from popular films such as The Martian and Ex Machina to documentaries about mathematics, space and the mind.

Hands on science

The ‘Hands on’ playlist is for those who want to get in there and try new things, from the apprentice series where you become a scientist’s assistant, to making snow at Street Science or showing off your grey matter at trivia with Dr Karl.

Comedy

Science isn’t all serious with the ‘Laugh out loud’ playlist your connection to the lighter side of science including a comedic astronaut with some burning questions about space in Cosmic Nomad, and science as you’ve never seen it before in FameLab science communication competition.
