Arts organisations come together to create Queensland’s future

Leading arts organisations from across Queensland will gather today to consider the future of the state’s arts, cultural and creative sector as part of a landmark roundtable established by Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch.

Minister Enoch said the inaugural Roundtable for Small to Medium Arts Organisations will provide insight and help the Palaszczuk Government to grow a vibrant and sustainable arts, cultural and creative sector.

“I established the Roundtable as a bi-annual forum to consider the sector’s priorities and challenges and to identify potential solutions,” Ms Enoch said.

“This is an avenue to generate discussion, to collaborate and to consider how to do things differently.

“Participants include representatives from 39 small to medium arts organisations in receipt of multi-year Arts Queensland funding through the Organisations Fund 2017–2020, along with the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, Indigenous Art Centre Alliance and KickArts Contemporary Arts providing additional visual arts representation.”

Dancenorth Artistic Director Kyle Page said the Roundtable was a valuable way to share ideas.

“The arts sector in Queensland is dynamic, forward-thinking, adaptable and responsive,” Mr Page said.

“Bringing together colleagues from across the state to collectively and collaboratively tackle challenges, encourage progressive creative practices and implement key actions to support a dynamic future for the arts, provides a powerful foundation from which the sector can reimagine the future and engage more Queenslanders than ever before.

“The fact that the Roundtable’s input will contribute to a 10-year timeframe is truly visionary and I applaud Minister Enoch for her commitment to ensuring Queensland operates at the cutting edge of arts and culture.”

Camerata Executive Director Adam Tucker said the Roundtable offered an opportunity to work strategically with government.

“A collaborative approach is especially critical as we address challenges facing the sector now, to ensure a strong future in the years ahead,” Mr Tucker said.

The Minister said the Roundtable was a key element in the consultation for Creating Queensland’s Future: 10-Year Roadmap for the arts, cultural and creative sector discussion paper.

“Along with the Roundtable, Arts Queensland is leading a public consultation process, supported by the recently established Regional Arts Services Network service providers, with regional forums and face to face consultations,” she said.

“Regional forums across the state invite Queenslanders to voice their views and inform the future direction of state government investment in this sector.

“These are important steps towards developing a long-term vision and action plan to support Queensland’s cultural priorities and economic development,” Minister Enoch said.
