The Indigenous Contemporary Music Action Plan
(PDF 1MB) Indigenous Contemporary Music Action Plan has been adopted by all the states and territories and the Australian Government, through the Cultural Ministers Council. It represents a determined and strategic effort to support the expression of Indigenous culture by young artists through music.
Groundswell will bring together three Indigenous music soloists or groups (one each from NSW, QLD and VIC) to tour prominent music venues in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne for three weeks in September/ October 2009.
The tour provides emerging Indigenous musicians with a platform to perform and promote their music to audiences in the ACT, NSW, QLD & VIC. The participating artists will also have access to career development support from music industry professionals to assist them in advancing their live performance careers.
The tour aims to introduce music fans to a new generation of talented Indigenous musicians. To apply, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and currently reside permanently in QLD, NSW or VIC. You must have a current or upcoming CD release and live music performance experience.
The Groundswell project is a partnership between Arts NSW, Arts Queensland, Arts Victoria and the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and is a significant part of the Indigenous Contemporary Music Plan adopted by all states and territories and the Australian Government, through the Cultural Ministers Council.
