Home > Arts in Queensland > Centre of Contemporary Arts, Cairns

The Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns is a significant piece of regional arts infrastructure developed by the Queensland Government and operated by Arts Queensland. It comprises two performance based venues being The Theatre, a 248 seat black box theatre and The Space, a large flexible open performance and rehearsal space; two international standard A-class galleries, a gallery shop, artists studio, meeting facilities and office accommodation for small to medium funded companies JUTE Theatre Company and KickArts Contemporary Arts.

The Centre currently also provides a home for End Credits Film Club, presenting non-mainstream cinema as well as space and support for the Indigenous Performing Arts Circle, a collective of professional indigenous performing artists based in the Cairns Region. It also provides presentation and development access to individual artists and local arts and cultural organisations as well as a program attracting audiences for a range of artform areas. Through innovative partnerships the centre seeks to support, develop and present the finest in contemporary arts practice in the Far North.

The Centre is unique as it is the only State Government funded centre of contemporary arts located outside a capital city, and demonstrates the Queensland Governments commitment to developing contemporary arts in regional centres and more specifically in Far North Queensland.
