Queensland Performing Arts Centre - redevelopment

Home > Projects > Queensland Performing Arts Centre - redevelopment

The recent $34.7 million refurbishment project at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) at the Cultural Centre will further cement its reputation as one of Australia’s best entertainment venues.

The QPAC upgrade gives all visitors access to arts and cultural events in a state-of-the-art environment that maximises new technology.

New seating, additional wheelchair locations, new stages, upgraded lighting, acoustics, rigging and design in the Lyric Theatre and Concert Hall and foyers have greatly enhanced the QPAC experience.

Disability access has been significantly improved with QPAC now arguably the best disability access venue in the country. Bars, box office and cloakroom were all redesigned to be wheelchair compatible, while a new glass lift takes people from ground floor to balcony level. A new entrance structure provides covered access from a drop-off zone in Grey Street to the main entrance.

In preparation for the opening, QPAC recruited 121 staff with one quarter of these as new positions for QPAC’s food and beverage outlets.

With a program of high-profile productions, robust ticket sales and strong staff recruitment, QPAC is set to further build on its success.
