Mapping Queensland Theatre

The sector planning consultation process undertaken in 2006 recommended that a scoping/mapping activity be undertaken. This will help to inform theatre practice and the strategic allocation of resources to support high quality, demand driven contemporary theatre in Queensland from 2010 - 2013.

Independent consultant John Baylis was engaged by Arts Queensland to research and map the Queensland theatre sector. The project began in February 2009 and involved widespread consultation. The mapping project provided a unique opportunity to create an overall picture of the professional theatre sector in Queensland.

The Theatre Mapping report (DOC 1.88MB) analyses the consultation themes and provides a range of recommendations for government and industry consideration. The report will inform the next Queensland Arts Industry Sector Development Plan (2010 - 2012) and provides a useful platform for arts sector debate about present and future contemporary theatre practice in Queensland.
