Providing strong foundations

First 5 Forever

First 5 Forever, delivered by the State Library of Queensland in partnership with local governments, connects young Queenslanders to the joys of reading and supports the Queensland Government’s commitment to nurture the creative minds of Queensland children. First 5 Forever aims to provide strong literacy foundations and life-long learning capabilities for all Queensland children 0-5 years, by directly supporting parents and primary caregivers. 

 

Out of the Box

The biennial Out of the Box Festival (OOTB) at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre presents quality performance and cultural activities that celebrates and supports learning, play, and discovery for children. Over more than 25 years and 14 festivals, OOTB has engaged more than one million participants.

 

QAGOMA's Children's Art Centre

QAGOMA Children's Art Centre works with artists to create interactive installations, artist projects and activities for children and families.

 

Sparklab Sciencentre

Located in the Queensland Cultural Centre, the all-new SparkLab Sciencentre includes 40 exhibits in three zones allowing for flexible facilitated learning experiences.

Arts and education
The Department of Education has a number of programs which engage students and teachers in industry standard arts programs and provide employment opportunities for professional Queensland artists including:

 

QM Loans
Queensland schools can borrow museum resources from the QM Loans collection or from a Regional Loans depot to engage learners in the classroom or community.

 

Artist in Residence

The Artists in Residence program  provides arts and education funding to kindergartens and schools seeking to increase arts engagement through partnerships with artists, arts organisations or arts facilities. Since its implementation in 2009, the program has delivered meaningful, stimulating and targeted arts and cultural experiences to more than 130 schools and thousands of students across the state, with great success in demonstrating a positive impact on all participants.
