Inclusive arts and culture means everyone can join in and contribute, no matter who they are or where they live.
This page provides a list of resources to support development of more accessible arts and cultural spaces and programs in Queensland.

- There are almost 1.2 million Queenslanders with disability, making up 23% of the state’s population1.
- 56% of Queenslanders with disability attended the arts in person (compared to 68% of all Queenslanders) during 2022 and 42% believed there were plenty of opportunities for them to get involved in cultural and creative experiences2.
- Several Queensland arts companies are working with disability services to create opportunities for people with diverse needs, such as Parkinson’s, autism, and vision impairment, to participate in arts programs.
- Disability-led work by Queensland artists is earning national recognition, winning awards, and transforming how arts are created and presented.

Queensland’s Disability Plan 2022-27: The Queensland’s Government’s plan to grow inclusion of Queenslanders with disabilities.
Arts and Disability Plan 2024-2026: Arts Queensland led plan with a focus on developing creative careers, celebrating disability-led work and growing inclusive arts and cultural experiences across the State.
Equity: The Arts and Disability Associated Plan: The Australian Government’s four-year roadmap of activities to build the foundations for equity for artists, arts workers and audiences with disability across Australia.
Queensland Government Training and toolkits: The Queensland Government has released training videos and courses to support accessible communication including My role: Disability inclusion champion and Inclusive language and communication toolkit.
Accessible Events Guide: A Queensland Government guide and checklist to assist in planning and delivering inclusive events.
Inclusive language and communication toolkit: The Queensland Government toolkit includes a guide to using inclusive language and tips to being more inclusive.
Co-design factsheets: Factsheets about how to work with people with disability to design programs.
Toolkit for engaging with people with disability in evaluation: The toolkit, created by Disability Gateway includes guides to help people with disability participate in evaluations, tips for evaluators and decision-makers on being inclusive and practical resources like checklists and fact sheets for best practices.
Access checklists: Accessible Arts (NSW) has developed a series of checklists for arts and cultural organisations to assist improving access and developing audiences. Checklists include Accessible Meetings Guide, Signage and Communications and Accessible Documents and Websites Checklist.
Arts and Disability Network Australia (ADNA): ADNA aims to promote inclusion, representation and support for artists with disability across Australia.
Access Arts Queensland: Access Arts provides skills development and career opportunities in the performing and visual arts for people with disability or experiencing disadvantage.
Queensland Disability Advisory Council (QDAC): The QDAC is a key channel for independent advice to the Minister on a range of disability and related matters that affect the broader community.
Access and diversity support: Creative Workplaces has a list of organisations and government agencies and organisations that support diversity and inclusion and empower artists with disability or experiencing disadvantage.
Hidden Disability Sunflowers program: The program is a globally recognised initiative that ‘makes the invisible visible’ by encouraging those with a hidden disability to wear a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard, pin or other merchandise to let people know they may need extra time, understanding or assistance in various situations.
