This landmark project, which opened in December 2006, includes the new Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), the redeveloped State Library of Queensland and outdoor civic spaces which open onto the Brisbane River.
These new buildings sit alongside the original Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Museum South Bank and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
GoMA is an architectural and cultural triumph. The largest modern art gallery in Australia, it is an inclusive building, bold in its design but not imposing, and democratic in its presentation. It is the only gallery in Australia to include a purpose-built Cinemathque, expanding the Queensland Art Gallery's ability to raise awareness and understanding of film, one of the most popular visual art forms.
The new State Library is a welcoming cultural and knowledge destination. Through its design, collections and services, it dramatically redefines the perception of the State Library's place in the community. It also plays an integral role in telling our stories and keeping our history alive.
The Cultural Centre integrates art, design and architecture and ensures that the State's flagship cultural institutions will continue to evolve with community needs and together they play a vital role in housing Queensland's treasures, artworks and cultural history for future generations.
