Arts Queensland is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. We understand and appreciate that as visitors and users of this website you may be concerned about the privacy, confidentiality, and security of any information you provide to us.

We collect and manage your personal information as described on this page, unless stated otherwise.

Arts Queensland is part of the Department of Education, which manages personal information in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). The Act includes Queensland Privacy Principles, which regulate, among other things, the collection, storage, accuracy, use and disclosure of personal and sensitive information.

Personal information

Personal information is defined in the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) as 'information or an opinion about an identified individual or an individual who is reasonably identifiable from the information or opinion -

a. whether the information or opinion is true or not; and

b. whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not.'

Collection of personal information

This website is hosted in Australia. There are several ways Arts Queensland collects information through this website to enhance user experience and perform its functions.

Information we may request

We may ask you to provide personal information through this website - for example, if you fill out a form or submit feedback to this website. We may request and collect personal information to:

  • meet your needs (e.g. answer a question, provide a service to you)
  • meet our needs (e.g. demographic analysis, provide our service)
  • comply with the law.
Use and disclosure of personal information

Unless expressly stated, the personal information we collect from you will be used for:

  • its collected purposes; and
  • to perform department’s functions and responsibilities.

We do not share personal information about you with other government agencies, organisations, and anyone else unless one of the following applies:

  • you would expect us to, or we have notified you we will;
  • it is required or authorised by law;
  • it will prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to somebody's life or health; or
  • the disclosure is reasonably necessary for law enforcement, or for the protection of public revenue.

You may subscribe to E-news through this website to receive email notifications on the following topics:

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics as a website analytics tool to collect anonymous information about how you interact with this website. When you visit, your browser automatically shares anonymised data with these tools, including:

  • data and time you visited the website
  • time spent on pages
  • pages and documents accessed
  • the website you visited before ours
  • the type of browser you use
  • device type and screen size

Arts Queensland’s ICT Service Providers/Overseas disclosure of personal information

Your personal information will be provided to Arts Queensland's ICT service providers, including Squiz Australia Pty Ltd ABN53 131 581 247 (Squiz) and Vision 6 Pty Ltd ABN23 099 766 499 (Vision6), for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Statement.

Arts Queensland uses Squiz as a Content Management System to maintain and publish the website. Squiz may process certain information automatically through the CMS and hosting environment, and any data the user intentionally submits. This may include IP address, device type, browser, usage, cookies and personal information you upload to forms.

Your personal information may be disclosed outside of Australia to: entities in the Squiz group (including Squiz Australia Pty Ltd, Squiz Inc, Squiz Limited (New Zealand), Squiz Poland sp. zoo., Squiz Scotland Ltd, Squiz UK Limited, Funnel back Pty Ltd, funnel back UK Ltd and Funnel back Inc in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Poland and the USA.

Arts Queensland uses Vision6 subscriber services to provide email notifications. Vision6 provides online platforms that can be used to create, send, and manage emails.

Upon subscribing, Arts Queensland may provide Vision6 with your personal information (i.e. name, email address, sector identifier, notification preferences, and postcode), to generate email notifications to the email address that you provide. Your personal information will be disclosed by Arts Queensland to Vision6 only for communicating to you via email for the purposes of, and in relation to, the topics and purposes listed above.

Arts Queensland can access the Vision6 platform to review email notifications sent to you, emails you may send in response to email notifications and associated analytics. Email notifications sent to you and emails you may send in response to email notifications will be treated as a public record and retained in accordance with the Public Records Act 2023 (Qld) and any other relevant legislation.

Squiz and Vision6 have their own privacy policies and may disclose your personal information to third parties in accordance with those policies.

Access and amendment of personal information

You are entitled to seek access to your personal information and to amend records if they are inaccurate, misleading, or out of date. Security

We are committed to protecting your personal information and take all reasonable steps to safeguard it from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.  This website uses a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate to provide secure authentication and encrypt data exchanged between your browser and our servers. However, please be aware that the website does not support additional methods for securely transmitting sensitive information over the internet.

Privacy complaints

If you believe Arts Queensland or the Department of Education has breached your privacy or mismanaged your personal information, you can make a privacy complaint by emailing privacy@qed.qld.gov.au.

To make a privacy complaint about an act or practice of Arts Queensland or the Department of Education in relation to your own personal information or on behalf of another person (subject to a valid authority being provided) you must:

  • provide the privacy complaint in writing to a department employee;
  • state an address to which the department may respond to the complaint;
  • give particulars of the act or practice that is the subject of the complaint; and
  • make the complaint within 12 months after the complainant became aware of the act or practice that is the subject of the complaint.
