Erika Scott: Cambium Itch

Erika Scott transforms consumer junk into immersive sculptures that blur boundaries between objects, images, and viewers. Cambium Itch scales up the ‘pin-art toy,’ filling the gallery with discarded materials like PVC pipes and furniture, leaving ghostly impressions of cast-off ideas. Inspired by the cambium layer in plants, Scott metaphorically taps into creative growth by piercing the gallery’s walls.

Bunny Rogers and Takeshi Murata: Cartoon Violence

In I, Popeye (2010), Takeshi Murata reimagines the iconic sailor as a 3D-rendered figure in existential crisis, alienated from his labour and power. The video’s surreal visuals and haunting soundtrack highlight themes of futility and masculinity. Bunny Rogers’s Mandy’s Piano Solo in Columbine Cafeteria (2016) reflects on the Columbine High School shooting. Featuring a mournful piano performance by Mandy, a character from Clone High, the work examines the lasting trauma of male violence and its impact on culture and innocence.
