Terms and conditions

In this document, the term 'You' means the participant who completes the survey.

By submitting a survey response, You agree to these terms and conditions, including any amendments made by Arts Queensland, and consent to Arts Queensland contacting you via email if you are the winner.

Please note: Arts Queensland may amend the terms and conditions at any time until the closing date of the survey.

The survey and competition will be governed by the laws of Queensland.

About the survey and competition

  • The survey and competition are being run by the Queensland Government, acting through Arts Queensland.
  • Every submission to the survey will be an entry into the competition.
  • It is free to submit a response to the survey.
  • Everyone is eligible to submit a survey response and enter the competition, including minors.
  • Staff, and immediate family of staff, of Arts Queensland are eligible to submit a survey response and enter the competition.
  • The survey and competition commences on Thursday, 10 April 2025.
  • Survey submissions must be submitted by 5pm, Saturday 10 May 2025.
  • No late submissions will be accepted.

Eligibility requirements

A. Your eligibility

To be eligible, You must:

  • provide Your first and last name; and
  • provide an email address so that Arts Queensland can contact you.

B. Naming eligibility  

If submitting an alternative name suggestion, the name must:

  • be easy to remember and spell;
  • should reflect a connection to place and to Queensland;
  • could highlight the theatre's iconic nature and its important role in growing Queensland's arts and cultural scene;
  • could reflect the design, location or purpose of the new theatre;
  • should complement the names of the other Queensland Performing Arts Centre venues (Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall, Cremorne Theatre, Playhouse);
  • not be offensive or harmful to individuals or groups in the community;
  • not be a reference the name of a living person;
  • could reference a deceased person who:
    • has achieved outstanding success or made a significant contribution to the arts sector or the community more broadly;
    • has a notable connection to the theatre or Queensland’s performing arts sector; and
    • is widely known and respected within the broader community;
  • not be too long (for practical signage purposes).

Arts Queensland reserves the right to:

  • disqualify any participant for submitting an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions;
  • modify, vary, extend, terminate, or cancel the competition without compensation to any person; and
  • accept or reject any submission in its sole discretion.

Entry conditions

For your submission to be considered, you must comply with the following:

  • submit your survey submission by 5pm, Saturday 10 May 2025 through the online survey form; and
  • provide the following details: your first and last name and your email address.

Naming Criteria

The Queensland Government is seeking a name for the New Performing Arts Venue that:

  • reflects a connection to place and to Queensland;
  • complements the names of the other theatres (Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall, Cremorne Theatre, Playhouse); and
  • potentially highlight’s the theatre’s iconic nature and its important role in growing Queensland’s arts and cultural scene.

Arts Queensland will review all naming submissions to ensure the following criteria is met:

  • The name is easy to remember and spell;
  • The name should reflect a connection to place and to Queensland;
  • The name could highlight the theatre's iconic nature and its important role in growing Queensland's arts and cultural scene;
  • The name could reflect the design, location or purpose of the new theatre;
  • The name should complement the names of the other Queensland Performing Arts Centre venues (Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall, Cremorne Theatre, Playhouse);
  • The name is not offensive or harmful to individuals or groups in the community;
  • The name is not a reference to the name of a living person;
  • The name could reference a deceased person who:
    • has achieved outstanding success or made a significant contribution to the arts sector or the community more broadly;
    • has a notable connection to the theatre or Queensland’s performing arts sector; and
    • is widely known and respected within the broader community; and
  • For practical signage purposes, the name is not too long.

Please note that by submitting a suggestion for a different name, you are providing the Queensland Government with permission to use the suggested name for the sole purpose of assessing the suitability of the name, which may include, but is not limited to, conducting relevant searches of the name, considering any existing rights in the name and having regard to cultural considerations.

Determination of winner and associated consents

  • The winner will be selected at random by Tuesday, 1 July 2025.
  • Arts Queensland will have complete discretion in assessing submissions, applying the eligibility and naming criteria, conditions of entry and determination of a winning submission.
  • The winning participant will be notified via the email address provided in the submission within 30 days of the winning entry being selected.
  • The winner of the competition will not be published online.

Prize and Prize collection

  • The winning participant will receive a Family Pass (four tickets) to a Queensland Performing Arts Centre performance of their choice (subject to availability). The total value of the prize is approximately $400.
  • The prize amount is approximate at the time the terms and conditions were first published and will be dependent on the winner’s selected performance and performance time. Arts Queensland accepts no responsibility for any variation in the commissioned value.
  • The prize is not transferable, exchangeable, or redeemable for any other item or cash.
  • Once the winner is selected and notified, they must collect the prize from the Queensland Performing Arts Centre within 12 months of being notified of their winning submission.
  • If the prize is not claimed or the winner cannot be contacted after reasonable efforts by Arts Queensland to confirm the winner’s details using the email address provided by the winner when entering the competition, then the prize will be forfeited.
  • In the event of any forfeited prize, Arts Queensland reserves the right to not select another winning entry.
  • Arts Queensland reserves the right to name the New Performing Arts Venue an alternative name to that submitted by the winning participant.

Exclusion of liability

Arts Queensland is not responsible for receipt of incorrect, inaccurate, or incomplete submissions caused by the participant or during submission.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Queensland Government and its employees, agents, and contractors are not liable for any loss or damage suffered or incurred by any person in relation to the competition, including but not limited to, consequential and indirect losses by reason of any act or omission, deliberate or negligent, by the Queensland Government, its employees, agents, and contractors.

This exclusion does not affect, and is not intended to affect, any rights a consumer may have, which are not able to be excluded under applicable Australian consumer protection laws. To the maximum extent permitted by law, any liability of the Queensland Government or its employees, agents, and contractors for breach of any such rights is limited to the value of the prize awarded.

If the competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of Arts Queensland, Arts Queensland reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify, suspend, terminate, or cancel the competition, without compensation to any person.

Arts Queensland’s conduct of the competition and the provision of the prize should not be construed as expressing or implying any endorsement of any product, service, or business.

Privacy Notice

A. Competition notice

Arts Queensland is collecting the personal information contained in the online submission form for the purpose of administering the competition, including contacting the winner.

By entering the competition, You agree to being contacted by Arts Queensland.

Your personal information will only be used by Arts Queensland for the purpose of administering the competition and as otherwise set out in the terms and conditions. It will not be used for any other purpose or disclosed to any other third party without your consent, unless required or permitted by law.

Arts Queensland complies with privacy legislation, specifically the Information Privacy Act 2009. For more information, refer to Arts Queensland's Privacy Policy.

B. Consultation survey collection notice

Personal information gathered in this survey conducted by Arts Queensland will be collected and handled in accordance with the Queensland Government’s Information Privacy Act 2009 and will be used to inform the potential name for the New Performing Arts Venue. Arts Queensland may publicly publish aggregate data and information from the survey, including direct quotes. Direct quotes will not be attributed to an individual or group, without obtaining prior consent.

Surveys conducted by Arts Queensland use online software from SurveyMonkey and audio submissions via a dedicated mailbox. Although all data analysis will be undertaken by Arts Queensland, data from your response will be stored by SurveyMonkey.

Your participation in these surveys, and the extent of information you provide, is entirely voluntary. We value your active interest and involvement and will not disclose your personal information to any other party or use it for any other purpose unless authorised or required by law.

At the end of the surveys, you may have the option to provide an email address to be added to Arts Queensland’s mailing list to receive further information from Arts Queensland, including in relation to future Arts Queensland newsletters, events and consultations. This is optional.
