The biennial Queensland Music Festival brings together several thousand Australian and international musicians to present a diverse program of jazz, opera, musical theatre, classical and contemporary performances to more than 100,000 people throughout greater Brisbane and Queensland's regional communities, spanning the length and breadth of the State's 1.7 million square kilometres.
Through the universal language of music, Queensland Music Festival unites the disparate communities of Queensland in a celebration of the shared stories, cultures and experiences that epitomise the richness and diversity of Queensland's musical and geographical landscapes.
The Queensland Music Festival is distinctive for its ongoing commitment to creating events which reflect the characteristics and histories of local regions.
In Brisbane, Queensland Music Festival showcases the best of local, national and international musical talents in a program of musical excellence including new opera, classical recitals, jazz, chamber music, and cross-cultural musical exchanges featuring indigenous musicians from Australia as well as our Pacific and Asian neighbours.
In the regional and remote communities of Queensland, community engagement is fundamental to the philosophy and success of the Festival. Through collaborations with local shire councils and the community at large the Festival ensures local participation in the process of creating and performing music that reflects the culture of individual centres, tells their stories, and celebrates their identities.
The festival is led by Artistic Director Paul Grabowsky, a music industry luminary named as the 2006 Australian Jazz Artist of the Year at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival's annual awards
At the end of the 2007 musical celebrations, tens of thousands of Queenslanders and visitors attended the 40 events presented in over 20 locations around the State.
