Named after Judith Wright, the celebrated Australian poet and activist, the Judith Wright Arts Centre (JWAC) is a vibrant and contemporary visual and performing arts hub, located in the heart of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
Home to some of Queensland’s and Australia’s most dynamic arts organisations, JWAC is a creative space for exciting visual arts programming and for the development and presentation of original and innovative contemporary performance works, including cabaret, circus, dance, music, spoken word and multi-disciplinary arts.
Opened in 2001, JWAC is owned and operated by the Queensland Government and managed by Arts Queensland.
JWAC underwent a $3.1 million redevelopment from 2018-2020, which created a new gallery space featuring the work of Queensland artists, an updated entry and facade incorporating night-time digital art projections, a new foyer layout with fitout and finishes, new offices and more spaces for tenants, artists and arts workers to meet and come together.
JWAC is undergoing a refurbishment that commenced in October 2024 with expected completion in September 2025. Please note that from 22 May until September 2025, the passenger lift will be unavailable due to the installation of a new lift. Alternative access to level 2 upper foyer and offices, and levels 3 and 4 will be via the fire stairs and the goods lift. On-site signage will provide instructions.
