Archigram and Superstudio

In the 1960s, the collectives Archigram (London) and Superstudio (Florence) reimagined architecture through bold, speculative designs inspired by pop art and the space age. Archigram embraced technology and media culture, envisioning high-tech megastructures like walking cities and plug-in cities. Superstudio, in contrast, critiqued this optimism with satirical concepts like the Continuous Monument, a ‘negative utopia’ challenging contemporary urban planning. This tile features a 1967 TV program on Archigram’s philosophy and two of Superstudio’s manifesto films: Supersurface (1972) and Ceremony (1973).
